It started production of square billets of sizes 100×100 mm and 120×120 mm In 1978, then was revamped and operated in 2017 at a capacity of / 288 /thousand tons annually in order to:
- Increase its production capacity to satisfy the local market needs of billet, which is the raw material for producing the rebars used in civil construction works.
- Reduce the consumption figures of power and consumables and increase the competition with the other sectors involved in this field of industry.
Commencement of works of modernization and up-gradation of the steel Melting Plant started in 3/20/2011 by replacement of production lines and development of plant equipment, but because of the disturbance occurred in Syria, it started operation in 05/19/2017.
The Melting Plant is considered the pillar of steel industry in the company as it produces billets from scrap iron and processes the product as per the Syrian regular standards.
The company managed to operate this plant under the difficult circumstances that the country was going through and procure the needed materials and consumables by announcing internal/external bids or by direct purchase to be able to carry on the production process in spite of the difficult situation and unjust sanctions, and also it managed to procure variable quantities of scrap.
It started production in 1971 with an annual production capacity /110/ thousand tons. It produces steel round and deformed bars of diameters 10~ 25 mm on three shifts. The mill had been serviceable during the shut-down of Melting Plant.
The Mill was operated in 10/20/2017 and produced /4936/ tons of round bars, and all the quantity was sold. As the Mill machines and production techniques became old, and the power consumption figure grew high, the Mill was halted and a relevant economical profitability study was made for the development of production line and adding another industrial lines in order to satisfy the needs of the local market of steel products.
Rolling Mill Technical Condition: Old and needs to be replaced with a new production line, and a plan is being studied with foreign companies for erection of a new production line for producing industrial and round section steel at a production capacity /275/thousand tons.
It started production of cylindrical, ring, and round disc shape of carbon and alloy steel forgings in 2004 at an annual production capacity /6700/Mt/y made to order. The plant forges special cast alloy ingots of various diameters produced in the Melting Plant. This technique is unique and unavailable in Syria, and the Forging Plant production is for quality products.
The plant started operation in 03/03/2018 and produced /17/ special heats; equivalent to /499,397/Mt.
The Technical Condition of Albasel Forging Plant:
Operative and needs for replacement of furnace control system S5 with S7.
In1978, it started production of medium pressure gas and water metal pipes of dia. 0.5 ~ 3 inch
At present, it is in halt due to the fact that it is economically unprofitable because of inundated markets which depend on polyethylene products
A memorandum was addressed to the superior authorities proposing announcement of bids for co-partnership as per law No./5/ of 2015. Its machines and equipment are old except for the galvanization section which was replaced with a new one in 2005 at production capacity /12,6/ million longitudinal meters.
